Most flights from Ireland via the UK require a night stop on the return journey, Flights via Lisbon are overnight sothe return night is spent on the aircraft rather than in an hotel,.

You can get the long-haul tickets through www.capeverdejetaway.com It is better to buy the Irish airlines directly but only once your long-haul flights are confirmed as there are no refunds on Irish airlines.

Ryanair flights from Dublin to Oporto, with connections to Sal in summer Fridays.

Aer Lingus flies from Dublin to Lisbon, daily at 0710 to connect for flights to Sal and Santiago.

G from Dublin found the Lisbon route then via Paris rather than direct worked fine.

"Thanks again so very much for organising flights and accommodation. The girl in Lisbon when we arrived was great and everything was so very organised. The bus was waiting outside at CDG and it only took 40 minutes"

C from Ireland was pleasedl

"We are back from Cape Verde and would like to thank both of you for all your hard work on organising everything for us ~ it all went like clockwork and the airline was great to travel with. We had a great time in Morabeza and Sal. Thanks again for all your attention to detail ~ and the lovely touch sending us the postcards."

The Fs from Cork booked to Gatwick with enough time to take the TAP flight to Lisbon and then plenty of time for the charter through to Sal.

"But as Friday dawned a heavy sea fog settled over Cork airport - not uncommon with seaside airports in summer. easyJet cancelled and as it turned out the airport stayed shut all day. The Fs rang Cape Verde Jetaway in some despair but were counselled to drive to Dublin. The airport was open and there were plenty of seats to Heathrow. Generously TAP switched the ticket from Gatwick to Heathrow on Business Class at only a modest increase in cost and the Fs arrived in Sal exhausted but just an hour behind their original charter flight."

This shows the risk inherent in using budget airlines and not flying across the day before. Neither Cape Verde Jetaway nor TAP were thanked for spending all day on the phone sorting this out.

T an Irishman living in Faro did not enjoy TAP from Lisbon

"It was one of those well organised flights, a TAP price €630 the whole 2000 km`s from Faro to Sal and back!. Last month I flew BA to Singapore, the whole 10,000 km`s and back for less. Arrived Lisbon on the 4.45 Faro-Lisbon flight, only to be told, flight delayed till 11.05, so, only 5 hours to kill in one of the worlds most boring airports, not at all like Dubai International or Singapore, guess I am just too well travelled a traveller to appreciate anything less than perfect. Although they did do a good 'cod platter' in the restaurant. So, 5 hours to kill, I hate it when flights don't connect, 5 hours to kill.....and then I met Michael Register, the front man for Nikki Beach quite by accident and just returned from Sal and on his way to Faro to sort out his company`s problems, great guy, lots of contacts and it wasn't long before we were exchanging contacts and promising to do a deal somewhere on something. He put me in touch with Tom Sheehy in Sal, an Irish guy (with a name like that, what else), Tom`s building on Sal and Sao Vicente which I am reliably told by our front man, is the best island......for girls. However, as I am trying to avoid getting AIDS again,`I`ll give that one a miss, but apparently Sao Vicente is also the most up `n coming island as in Michael's words 'Sal, Maio and Boa Vista are strictly tourism'. Now, if you have never flown TAP before, try not to, the Wright Bros. are more modern. I guess I am spoiled for air travel. Although the leather seats were comfortable to start with, it wasn't long before my neck and back needed some serious massaging to ease the pain. None available, so a couple of double whiskies did the trick and numbed everything from the neck down. Good job I invested in a €12 'blow up' headrest. Not a patch on my life-size doll back in Tavira but one must not moan. As I am sitting there contemplating my lot for the next three hours, the TV screens dropped from the cabin roof, great, some entertainment. A good movie started, a sure way of killing one and half hours. I looked for the earphones, none, I looked for the earphone jack plugs in the arm rest, none, I called the steward. ' We cant give you sound Sir, people are trying to sleep'............what!!. Can I have some earphones please, I replied, we don't have any, was the response, this is a TAP flight without earphones, as its an old hunk and you will be lucky if you get there at all, good job you got an aisle seat by the door, you may survive the crash !! (that's how I interpreted the negative response). The ride from Sal Airport to the Belorizonte Hotel was a hair raising taxi drive by a non-English speaking local who knew the road so well he kept on both sides whilst straddling the white line through 20 miles of total blackness heading for the beacon of the city lights well in the distance. The road stopped abruptly after several roundabouts with no left or right exits, wondered why they were there, possibly just expensive 'sleeping policemen' to slow down speeding taxi drivers. At the end of the road, we pulled up, as it literally finished on the beach, onto a dirt track sporting a very busy discotheque, we were right in the heart of whatever destination we had been heading for, Belorizonte Hotel. A quick glance at the local attractions at that time in the morning (3.00 a.m) confirmed that the gross domestic product was .....girls. lots of `em plying their trade in the early hours. Oh, well, can`t be all that bad. Checked in, unimpressed, not at all like the Orchard Gardens Hotel, Singapore where liveried bell boys greet you with an ear to ear smile collecting your cases from the boot of the limousine. "
